A standard minicab takes four passengers, and a family of five with holiday luggage will struggle to fit. Our 6 seater taxi in Thames Ditton is a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) with six passenger seats, so families and small groups can travel in one car on one fixed fare.
When a 6 seater is the right choice
The number of passengers is only half the question. The other half is luggage. Think about who is travelling and what they are bringing:
- Five or six passengers with light bags, such as a family going out for dinner or friends heading to a match.
- Four passengers with lots of luggage, such as a family flying off for two weeks with large suitcases and a pushchair.
- Small business groups travelling to a meeting or an airport with cases and laptop bags.
With six passengers, luggage space is more limited than with four. If everyone has a large suitcase, a 7 seater taxi or two cars may be better. Tell the office exactly what you are carrying and we will advise.
Airport runs for families
Family airport transfers are one of the most common uses for an MPV. From Thames Ditton, Heathrow is the shortest run, and Gatwick is a straightforward drive down the M25 and M23. Longer journeys to Stansted and Luton also work well in an MPV, as the extra room makes a long drive more comfortable. We track inbound flights, and child seats are available on request.
Days out and events
Families use the 6 seater for birthday outings, trips to see relatives, and events such as race days at Sandown Park in Esher or summer events around Hampton Court. Friends book it for evenings out in Kingston upon Thames or central London, sharing one fixed fare instead of splitting into two cars.
How the MPV compares with other cars
| Vehicle | Passengers | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Saloon | Up to 4 | Everyday trips and couples with a couple of cases |
| Estate | Up to 4 | Extra boot space for bulky items |
| 6 seater MPV | Up to 6 | Families and small groups with luggage |
| 7/8 seater | Up to 7 or 8 | Larger groups and events |
Luggage space depends on the number of passengers. Please give us your full details when booking so we can confirm the right vehicle.
Pickups across the area
Our MPVs cover Thames Ditton and every area we serve, including Walton-on-Thames, Hinchley Wood and East Molesey. Travelling with a dog as well? See our pet friendly taxi page and mention it when you book.
Tips for booking the right vehicle
When you book, count everyone travelling, including babies and young children who need a car seat. Then list the luggage: large suitcases, cabin bags, pushchairs, car seats you are bringing yourself and any sports equipment. If you are unsure whether it will all fit, call the office and describe it. We would rather advise you beforehand than have a car arrive too small on the morning of a flight.
Book a 6 seater
Choose the MPV option in the booking form above, or call 020 8390 5266 to check which vehicle suits your group. We recommend booking early for school holidays, when MPVs are in high demand. Card and cash are both accepted.
6 seater questions
How many passengers can a 6 seater taxi take?
Up to six passengers. How much luggage fits depends on how many seats are in use.
Can a family of five with suitcases fit in a 6 seater?
Usually yes, with medium-sized luggage. Tell us how many cases you have and we will confirm the right vehicle.
Is a 6 seater more expensive than a normal car?
An MPV usually costs more than a saloon, but one MPV is often cheaper than two separate cars. Ask for a quote on both.
Can you fit child seats in the 6 seater?
Yes, child seats are available on request. Tell us each child's age when you book.
Should I book a 6 seater early for school holidays?
Yes. MPVs are popular during school holidays, so booking ahead gives you the best chance of your preferred time.
